Professional profile
Debashis Ghosh is a Consultant Breast and Oncoplastic Surgeon, based at the Royal Free Hospital and University College London Medical School. Mr Ghosh undertook his higher specialist training in Breast and Oncoplastic Surgery at The University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust and Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge. He has also trained in leading European centres as a visiting fellow. He holds a dual qualification from the European Board of Surgery in Breast and Surgical Oncology. Mr Ghosh’s particular areas of interest and expertise are in the surgical treatment of breast cancer, breast cancer screening, family history, benign breast disease, gynaecomastia, oncoplastic breast conservation, risk reducing surgery, revision surgery, breast reconstruction and intra-operative radiotherapy.
Breast surgery offered
Debashis Ghosh is actively involved in breast surgery research, including the use of portable gamma camera for sentinel node biopsies. He is also involved in trials using intraoperative radiotherapy, seed localisation and radioactive iodine. He is currently working on the use of fluorescence in cancer surgery.

PROCEDURES OFFERED
Mr Ghosh performs a range of cosmetic and corrective breast surgery procedures including:
- Wide local excisions (lumpectomy)
- Sentinel node biopsies (all patients who undergo this procedure will have the benefit of one stop assessment. OSNA test is also available)
- Axillary node clearance
- Simple and skin sparing mastectomy
- Risk-reducing breast surgery
- Therapeutic mammoplasty
- Oncoplastic procedures and breast remodelling
- Nipple inversion
- Breast augmentation (enlargement)
- Breast symmetrisation
- Breast reduction
Mr Ghosh sees all patients as part of the One Stop Breast Clinic, where possible. Consultations are carried out in excellent facilities where, for breast cancer, radiology and pathology is available in the same consultation. A health care assistance will be available at all times as a chaperone. A Specialist Breast Care Nurse will be on hand to provide additional support to each patient, as necessary.
All patients who are treated are discussed at the MDT.
One Stop Radiotherapy will be offered to all eligible patients.
BRCA genetic defects and risks of breast cancer can be tested for suitable patients.
