Professional profile
Dr. Sami trained in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology at centres of excellence both in the UK and the USA at Mayo Clinic Rochester which was recently ranked as the Number 1 hospital in the world!
During his training, he completed a prestigious National Endoscopy Research Fellowship at the NIHR Nottingham Biomedical Research Centre leading to the award of a PhD on the evaluation of minimally invasive screening tools for Barrett's oesophagus and oesophageal varices.
Since receiving his Post Graduate Certificate in Medical Education (PGCME) degree, he took on many teaching roles both in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching capacities as well as serving as a permanent and invited faculty member and speaker on several national and international courses and workshops. He is the director of the UCL Upper GI Symposium (UGIS) which is an annual course aimed at doctors in surgery and medicine as well as nurses, and trainees.
At a clinical care and service delivery level, Dr. Sami is a comprehensively trained Physician and Gastroenterologist in all medical aspects of GI.

Awards and accolades
Dr. Sami is proud to be the recipient of several awards including:
- Cook Medical Marsha Dreyer award from the American Society for GI Endoscopy (ASGE)
- British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) out of programme award
- Fellows-in-training award from the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG).
He is also the lead author and co-author of over 40 high impact peer-reviewed publications and research abstracts in the field of Gastroenterology including the current UK guidelines on oesophageal dilatation.
