Professional profile

Dr. Karim Hussain is a Senior Consultant Oral and MaxilloFacial Surgeon/Head and Neck Surgeon with over 20 years of experience treating a wide range of conditions of the mouth, face, jaws, neck and teeth. He believes every patient is unique and treats them as as individuals.

Before gaining specialist training in oral and facial / head and neck surgery, Dr. Hussain undertook a wide range of training in related medical fields in order to obtain a broad foundation for his work. After earning his dental and medical doctorates, he first completed five years of training in plastic surgery, general surgery, orthopaedic surgery and emergency medicine. He then completed specialty training in surgery of the mouth, jaws, face, salivary glands and neck. He gained additional experience in the U.S.A., France, Germany, India and China.

Dr. Hussain has published many original scientific articles, written textbook chapters, and designed learning modules in the field of Oral and Facial / Head and Neck Surgery, which have been published in prestigious scientific journals, including the American Journal of Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Journal of Trauma, Annals of Oncology, Annals of the Royal College of Surgeons of England etc In recognition of the quality of his work, the NHS Trust awarded him several Clinical Excellence Awards over the years, and he also received the Norman Rowe Clinical Research Prize in 1997.

He holds Fellowships of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, British Association of Oral and MaxilloFacial Surgeons and the American College of Oral and MaxilloFacial Surgeons. He has been a senior examiner for the Specialist Examination in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of England, Edinburgh, Glasgow, and Ireland. He has held a number of Chairmanships, including Head and Neck Multidisciplinary Tumour Board at Guys Hospital and Research Ethics Committee Bexley Health Authority, where he was commended for his leadership.
