The radiotherapy team

The radiotherapy team believes that our patients should expect and receive the best treatment and care available and will constantly be delivering the latest cutting edge practice to achieve this. The department is situated in The Duchess of Devonshire Wing at 22 Devonshire Place and opened in 2009 as part of The London Clinic’s new state of the art cancer facility.

The radiotherapy department is on two floors with the first housing the pre-treatment and review areas. The second radiotherapy floor is the treatment floor. This is where the latest technology required to offer individualised treatment and care is utilised to offer the best outcomes with the minimum side effects possible.

During your treatment in the radiotherapy department you will find all staff highly skilled, efficient and caring. We will treat you in a safe, comfortable and friendly environment where we respect your privacy, confidentiality and dignity.

Some people you may meet or may be helping you include:

Clinical oncologist or neurosurgeon

The consultant who decides the best way to treat you and who will oversee your care.

Radiotherapy bookings

They will liaise with you to ensure your appointments are scheduled at your convenience. They will email or post appointments and information directly to you.

Radiotherapy receptionists

They will inform the radiographers when you have arrived.  Please ask them if you require anything when you attend the department.

CT radiographers

They ensure patients are in the correct position for their treatment (this may involve the use of immobilisation equipment which enables the patient to remain still) and perform the CT scan which is essential for planning the radiotherapy.  Your consultant, medical physicists and dosimetrists use this scan to calculate your treatment.

Information and support team

They will see you at your radiotherapy CT scan and will answer any questions you may have about your treatment and its side effects. They will inform you about support services within The Clinic and you can request to see them at any time throughout your treatment.

Medical physicists (radiation scientists)

They work closely with your consultant, dosimetrists and radiographers to plan your treatment.

Produce and calculate your treatment plan, working closely with the physicists, your consultant and radiographers.

Therapy radiographers

They use the treatment machines to deliver your radiotherapy safely and accurately on a daily basis.

Radiotherapy clinical assistant

This specialist doctor will see you if you need medical assistance or assessment.

Radiotherapy nurses

They specialise in radiotherapy side effects. The radiographers will refer you to the nurse if you develop any problems or have any questions for them.
