The choice of treatment depends on the type of the cervical or uterine cancer, how advanced the cancer is and the age and general health of the individual.   Your consultant may order some diagnostic tests to help gather more information.

The three main forms of treatment are:

  1. Surgery: which can include a hysterectomy and possible removal of the ovaries.
  2. Radiotherapy: which may include Image Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT), conformal, Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy or Volumetric Arc Therapy (IMRT/RapidArc) and respiratory gated radiotherapy.
  3. Drug therapy which may include chemotherapy.

A treatment plan involving one or a combination of any of the above treatments is individually customised and your consultant will discuss your treatment plan with you.
