Neuroradiology
This sub-specialty offers a
number of diagnostic services including MRA, MRI and CT
scanning, digital subtraction angiography, venous dopplers,
discography and bone densometry.
The department can undertake a number of
interventional neuroradiological procedures including:
- Stenting for carotid stenosis
- Embolisation for arteriovenous
malformations
- Coiling for cerebral
aneurysms.
Balloon kyphoplasty for osteoporotic,
pathological and traumatic fractures is undertaken under
radiological guidance.
Scanning plays a major role in neurosurgical
procedures – including stereotactic operations, 'Gamma Knife', and
surgery using neuronavigation systems (including biopsy/craniotomy
for intracranial lesions and insertion of deep brain
stimulators).
