Chemical Peel
A chemical peel is an effective way to
rejuvenate ageing skin. A solution is applied to remove a layer of
skin and as it grows back, skin is smoother and imperfections
reduced.
The amount of skin removed will depend on the
type and strength of the chemical product used. Your consultant
will advise on the most appropriate treatment for you based on your
skin type and reason for treatment.
- Superficial peels - removes the outer layer (epidermal) of skin
and is ideal for short-term improvement.
- Medium depth peels - removes both the outer layer (epidermal)
and upper dermal layers of skin. This will help to significantly
reduce the appearance of fine lines, blemishes and facial
scarring.
- Deep peels - removes the outer layer (epidermal), upper dermal
and lower dermal layers of skin. This will have a noticeable effect
on deep wrinkles.
Preparation
Prior to all chemical peels, you will be
required to avoid any changes to your normal skincare routine.
These would include avoiding electrolysis, exfoliating facials,
sunbathing or tanning beds and the use of any new creams.
Process
The face is cleansed and stripped of its
natural oils to allow the chemical solution to be absorbed into the
skin. The peel will be quickly painted on to the area to be treated
and left for between 2-10 minutes before being washed off and
neutralized.
Recovery
This will depend on your skin type and the
level of peel and can range from one day to 1 week.
