Nose Re-shaping (Rhinoplasty)
Nose re-shaping is a common procedure undertaken to amend
hereditary imperfections, improve breathing and to balance features
which may appear out of proportion.
The nose can be re-shaped by reducing or increasing its size,
removing a bump, changing the shape of the tip or bridge or
narrowing nostril span.
Your surgeon will discuss your reasons for wanting surgery and
ensure that you are a suitable candidate with realistic
expectations.
Process
Nose reshaping will require a local or general anaesthetic
depending on each individual procedure. This will determine whether
you will be required to stay overnight.
The exact surgical technique will vary according to each
surgeon. However, most will begin by separating the nose skin from
its framework of cartilage and bone. This will be done from an
incision inside the nose. The surgeon then reshapes the nose,
replaces the skin over the new framework and applies a splint to
help the nose maintain its new shape.
Post-surgery
Healing will be a slow and gradual process with some swelling
taking months to subside. You will be required to take two weeks
off work and refrain from any strenuous activity for at least three
weeks.
With the exception of changes associated with ageing, results
will be permanent.
