Abdominal Shaping (Abdominoplasty)
Abdominal shaping is fantastic if you have
experienced substantial weight-loss, removing excess loose skin to
leave you with a smoother, flatter line or as a body-contouring
procedure to tackle excess stubborn fat which does not respond to a
healthy diet and exercise.
Process
Abdominal shaping surgery requires a general
anaesthetic and overnight stay.
Incisions are made along the abdomen above the
pubic bones. The skin is then lifted and the abdominal muscles are
then pulled, tightened and stitched into a new, firmer position.
Excess fat will then be removed manually or with liposuction before
the skin is stretched into place and sutured.
Post-surgery
The healing process following abdominal
shaping can span two to four weeks. You will have difficulty
standing upright for the first week following the procedure, so it
will be important to have help during the first week.
You will have a permanent scar at the site of
incision, however, your surgeon will discuss minimizing the impact
of this scar at your initial consultation. The location of the scar
will also depend on the procedure chosen.
With good diet and exercise, the effects of
your abdominal shaping will be permanent. Your consultant will talk
to you about maintaining the results.
