Isokinetic assessment and treatment using the Biodex

Isokinetic assessment and treatment involves exercising using apparatus that provides variable resistance to a movement, thereby allowing the effort of the patient to be monitored.

The Biodex is a computerized system used for testing strength and for rehabilitation, usually of the knee but can be used for the shoulder, wrist, elbow or ankle.

Testing will show where the strength deficit lies, for example, with a footballer it might show weakness at a fast speed when kicking a ball, but with an older or elderly patient it might show weakness at a slow speed, such as getting out of a chair.

The Biodex can be used to rehabilitate the following conditions

  • Achilles tendonitis
  • Patellar tendonitis (jumper’s knee)
  • Tennis elbow
  • Rotator cuff injuries
  • The Biodex™ can additionally be used to help individuals gain strength, and to also gain range of movement in stiff joints
