We are proud to announce that two of our chefs here at The London Clinic have been awarded the top prize in the UK’s largest internationally respected cookery competition; the 2014 Le Salon Culinaire International de Londres. The competition took place on Thursday 1 May with Clinic chefs succeeding to win the top prize, the ‘Silver Medal’, and ‘Best in Class’ in the hospital chefs team class.

The Clinic’s winning chefs are Bela Szekeres, Senior Chef de Partie and Gabor Rajhona, Commis Chef.  Their winning dishes were a main course of pan-fried fillet of mackerel marinated in tumeric and orange, served with tomato and avocado salsa and Kentish new potatoes followed by a dessert of rice pudding with British strawberry compote.

The Hospital Chefs Team Class in Salon Culinaire is organised by the Hospital Caterers Association and allows hospital chefs to have the opportunity of demonstrating their craft and skills.  As the top award winners in their class, Bela and Gabor were also awarded Hospital Chefs of the Year by the Hospital Caterers Association.

Bela Szekeres said:  “winning the Silver Medal and Best in Class was a great moment for us and we share this with our colleagues at The London Clinic. We are really pleased to have won with dishes that are British seasonal, sustainably and as locally sourced as possible and would be well suited to a patient in hospital”.   Gabor Rajhona added:  “we have given special thought about making our dishes suitable for our patients as some may have to eat in bed with only the use of one hand. Our aim was to prepare two specially prepared and well cooked dishes, using great local ingredients that were simple, nutritious, colourful and tasty”.

The London Clinic’s Executive Chef, Simon Clark said “This is a great achievement and proves that dedication, practice and hard work are well rewarded.  I am really pleased to see two of my chefs winning this award which reflects greatly on our team and the belief in training and development of our chefs. This award will support the Clinic in recruiting and retaining the best talent”
