The London Clinic Offers Free Information and Support For
People Affected By Cancer
June 2007
The London Clinic - one of the UK’s most established independent
hospitals - is urging men in the capital affected by cancer to take
advantage of its specialist ‘drop-in’ cancer information centre,
during Everyman Male Cancer Awareness Month (1-30 June).
Testicular cancer is the most common form of cancer among men
aged between 15-45 years, while prostate cancer is the most common
of all cancers among men, causing 10,000 deaths every year.
However, despite their high prevalence, men are notoriously bad at
discussing health matters.
The London Clinic and the UK’s leading cancer information
charity, Cancerbackup, work in partnership to provide information
about cancer and its treatment, and about the practical help and
support available for those living with cancer.
The Cancerbackup Information Centre at The London Clinic is
staffed by a cancer information nurse specialist - a qualified
cancer nurse with extensive experience in the issues that affect
cancer patients, their family and friends. This free information
and support service is available, on a drop-in basis, from 9.00am -
4.30pm for anybody affected by cancer.
Alison Boyd, the Cancerbackup Information Nurse Specialist at
The London Clinic, says: “To help mark Everyman Male Cancer
Awareness Month, we are trying to encourage more men to take
advantage of our free service at The London Clinic.
“Taboos still exist among men especially where prostate and
testicular cancer are concerned and it’s vital that more men are
made aware of the tell-tale signs and understand the importance of
treating them, so we can help prevent more lives being lost
unnecessarily to the disease. “
