Professor Teare trained at Kings College, St Thomas' and St Mary's Hospitals before being appointed Consultant Gastroenterologist at St Mary's in 1994.
He has also been appointed as Consultant Gastroenterologist to the Royal Marsden Hospital.
Professor Teare is head of endoscopy at both The London Clinic and Royal Marsden Hospitals. His research interests are in colonoscopy, with support from the Wellcome Trust to develop new endoscopes.
He is developing new interventional therapies for obesity related type 2 diabetes. He has been working on NOTES - Natural Orifice Translumenal Endoscopic Surgery - performing conventional operations through the mouth, anus or vagina without an abdominal scar.
Professor Teare is married with three children. He enjoys playing tennis, cycling, photography and fly fishing, particularly for salmon.
