Donald qualified from the University of Edinburgh and gained extensive training in Vascular and Endovascular Surgery in Edinburgh, Leicester and Adelaide, Australia, before being appointed Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon in Birmingham in February 2004. He was awarded a Doctorate for vascular research at University of Edinburgh. He is a member of the Vascular Society of Great Britain & Ireland (VSGBI) and sits on the Council of the British Society of Endovascular Therapy (BSET).
Donald has particular expertise in walk-in/walk-out treatment for varicose veins and leg ulcers using minimally invasive endovascular techniques such as ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy and radiofrequency ablation. One of the pioneers in keyhole vascular treatments, he also has a worldwide reputation in endovascular aortic aneurysm repair (EVAR), training other surgeons in this technique across the UK and Europe since 2009.
