Sean qualified in 1988 from The London Hospital Medical College, part of The University of London. He initially specialised in anaesthetics before following sub-speciality training in Pain Medicine. After time spent in Australia he returned home to the UK and became a research Senior Registrar at The Royal London Hospital.
When Sean had completed his research he was enrolled as the first doctor to be trained at St Barts & The Royal London, on the newly developed pain fellowship course. He also spent time at Texas Tech University, USA for a four-week pain intervention course.
Sean took up an NHS consultant post in Pain Medicine & Anaesthesia at Oldchurch & Harold Wood Hospitals in Essex. He then transferred to a second consultant post at St Barts & The Royal London. During this time he was awarded Fellow of the faculty of Pain Medicine at the Royal College of Anaesthetists.
Sean then established and developed his clinical practice, before leaving the NHS and developing a Pain Medicine & Anaesthetic practice in the independent sector in 2001. After three years, Sean gave up his anaesthetic work to concentrate fully on pain medicine as part of a multi-disciplinary unit.
To continue his professional development, Sean undertook a higher international qualification, achieving the Fellowship of the Institute of Pain Practice under the auspices of the World Institute of Pain.
He continues to be an active member of this organisation, lecturing and demonstrating techniques to the next generation of doctors interested in this field.
In 2014, Sean was one of the team who established the London Pain Service.
