Professional profile

Dr Cheeran trained as a Neurologist at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, and joined the Deep Brain Stimulation team as a Consultant in 2012.
He completed his research training in motor neuroscience at the UCL Institute of Neurology at Queen Square. His research work during this period, in the field of Parkinson's Disease, was awarded the The Queen Square Prize in Neurology (ION) (2008) and the International Parkinson and Movement Disorders Society Young Investigator Prize.

Dr Cheeran is a recognised authority on programming and troubleshooting the latest generation of Deep Brain Stimulation devices (Directional DBS technology, and frequently delivers lectures on the subject internationally. He has authored over 50 peer reviewed articles in specialist journals.

He has a significant role in industrial R&D, and is currently working with Abbott Labs to develop the next generation of DBS programming technology.
